Memorial Day

On Monday, May 27th (Memorial Day), all of our classes are canceled, except for Ballet I-II with Anne-Marie Loesch at 6:30 pm. Pre-registration will be required for class on this day; you may sign up either in person at the studio or online.
Free Latin Dance Days!
On June 2nd and 16th, Christopher Manning will teach Beginning Salsa (4:00-5:00 pm) and Intermediate Salsa (5:00-6:00 pm). These classes are free to the public – register now!
Upcoming Performances
Music + Movement Festival – Humboldt Park JHD will perform at Humboldt Park (1440 N. Humboldt Dr.) on Friday, June 7th at 6:30 pm. This performance is FREE to the public and is a collaboration with musician Charles Heath. More info available at Music + Movement.
En Avant – Hyde Park School of Dance JHD will perform at the University of Chicago’s Logan Center for the Arts (915 E. 60th St.) with Hyde Park School of Dance in HPSD’s gala performance En Avant! Performances will be Friday, June 14th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, June 15th at 2:00 pm. The Saturday performance will be followed by a VIP reception. Ticket prices and other details available at Hyde Park School of Dance.
Summer Intensives

Summer intensives are approaching quickly! Intensives for teens and adults begin on July 8th. This year’s JHDC Summer Intensive has been designed to promote deep professional and skill enhancement in an intimate environment. You will enjoy the intensive and targeted work as you complete the weekly sequences that are custom designed for each professional and student’s growth through the JHDC Individual Summer Intensive Plan.
Audition for Adult and Teen Summer Intensive Placement
Applicants can audition for their placement (Professional/Advanced, or Intermediate) in the Summer Intensive program at the main placement audition, which will be held Sunday, June 23rd from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Joel Hall Dancers & Center.

New adult classes – Summer I Session
Our roster of adult classes for the Summer I Session includes exciting new offerings such as:
Beginning Ballet (Mondays, 1:30 pm) with Tashielle Gooley
Musical Theater Dance (Mondays, 6:30 pm) with Mike Davis
Jazz II (Saturdays, 5:00 pm) with Kirby Reed
Also, Hip Hop (Tuesdays) with Tone Wolf has moved to 6:30 pm (previously 8:00 pm), and Paula Ward will teach Jazz II (Thursdays, 6:30-8:00 pm) on May 16th, 23rd, and 30th.
And don’t forget our continuing favorites – work your technique with Joel’s Jazz II!
July 4th week
JHDC will be closed from Monday, July 1st through Friday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day (July 4th). We will reopen for regular classes on Saturday, July 6th.
Master Class Series!

This summer, we will host our Master Class Series featuring an impressive roster of master class instructors. Each class presents a unique opportunity to learn from the best! Master classes will be held each Sunday for five weeks, beginning July 7th; the cost of each class will be $25. Check out our brand-new Master Classes tab for details on each class, and register now!
Our first master class will be with Betsy Herskind on July 7th at 10:00 am! Register now!
Zumba for teens!
We offer Zumba Fitness in our Youth Division! Leah Martin will continue to teach Teen Zumba on Thursdays at 4:30 pm this summer – register now!

Our Mission
The mission of the Joel Hall Dancers & Center is to use the arts to enrich the lives of its community members through dance performance and education. We reach out to the community, targeting those who would not otherwise be exposed to the arts by providing performances, classes both with in-school outreach and after-school dance programs along with local, national, and international performances.
